Bahama, N.C. — A woman was shot and killed by a Durham County deputy on Tuesday afternoon.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the 400 block of John Jones Road in Bahama around 3:30 p.m. for a report of a disturbance.
When they arrived, deputies said they saw a woman armed with a shotgun. Before the shooting, deputies said the woman, whose name they did not release, aimed the shotgun at deputies multiple times while they tried to get her to put the gun down.
“We are at the beginning of this investigation, and I ask that the public allow time for the facts to come out,” said Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead in a statement.
