Upton, bipartisan group of lawmakers request travel exemptions for South African farmworkers


U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) joined a bipartisan contingent of lawmakers requesting that the Biden administration permit H-2A farmworkers from South Africa to temporarily travel to the United States to supplement labor shortages on American farms.

“Due to ongoing workforce shortages our country continues to face, American farmers continue to utilize the H-2A guest worker visa program to fill vacant farm positions,” the 35 lawmakers wrote in a Dec. 21 letter sent to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
