COLUMBIA — For 27 years Rob Harris has awakened every morning, donned his scrubs and headed to work as a registered nurse, sometimes in the operating room, other times in the ICU.

His schedule will be getting a little bit of a shakeup come Jan. 10 when he’ll start his first session as a freshman state representative. But Harris, R-Wellford, will be something of an anomaly in Columbia, a health care worker in a Legislature overwhelmingly dominated by business owners, real estate agents, consultants and, especially, attorneys.

The Spartanburg County Republican who works for Prisma Health System said he will need to keep working at the hospital throughout the session, picking up shifts on Mondays, Fridays and weekends, opposite his Tuesday-Thursday…
