Republicans haven’t been hurt by the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol

It seemed a fair bet a year ago after supporters of then-President Donald Trump brazenly attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, that it could prove a serious setback to his political party.

That hasn’t happened.

Initial reports of voters leaving the Republican Party in droves because of the attempt to forcibly overturn the election of President Joe Biden and suggestions that the party might break apart gave way to Virginia electing its first Republican governor in more than a decade and predictions that the GOP is set to take back one, if not both, chambers of Congress in the midterm elections 11 months from now.
