Rep. Swalwell shared his 4-year-old’s reaction to Buffalo shootings in call for gun control


WASHINGTON — Rep. Eric Swalwell late Monday called for a swift gun control response to the allegedly racially motivated mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, tweeting that his 4-year-old child was asking him questions about the attack.

“My 4-year-old just FaceTimed to ask what I’m doing to ‘help the people in Buffalo’ and ‘why did the bad man do this?’ Absolutely gutting. This cannot be his normal. It’s time to BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS. #EndGunViolence,” the Livermore Democrat tweeted.

He followed up with a second tweet that included a screengrab of a text message exchange he apparently had with his son’s caregiver at the time, which shared a picture of his son watching a CNN update about the shooting and relaying to Swalwell that his son was asking what would be done.
