Former Vice President Mike Pence pumped a fist in the air while he made his way down the Iowa State Fair’s Grand Concourse in a steady downpour as fairgoers cheered him from beneath a covered beer pavilion.
“You’re the man!” someone shouted at Pence, who braved the rain and puddles in a blazer and boots. He briefly encountered boos, but remained undeterred.
Pence was joined Friday by a cadre of Iowa’s Republican political candidates throughout the afternoon, including U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Randy Feenstra, and 3rd District candidate Zach Nunn.
It was Pence’s fourth visit to Iowa since the 2020 election as he appears to be laying the groundwork for a presidential run, though he downplayed that possibility Friday.
