Senator Marco Rubio of the Republican Party was chastised online on Thursday after accusing the NBA of “politicizing” the deadly mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and claiming the league is silent on China’s treatment of Uyghurs.
After a moment of silence before the NBA playoff game between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, Rubio slammed a call for tougher gun legislation. The event served as a memorial to the 19 students and two teachers killed in the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde on Tuesday.
“The Heat encourages you to call your state senators and leave a message urging them to support common sense gun laws by dialing 202-224-3121.” After the silent tribute, a public address announcer said, “You can also make change at the ballot box,” CNN reported.
