Man who denied murdering County Durham dad in his bed changes his plea to guilty


A man who denied murdering a dad in his own bed has changed his plea to guilty.

Marty Bates, 31, previously told a jury that he did not carry out the fatal attack on John Littlewood in July 2019.

However, on Monday, TeessideLive reports that Bates admitted murdering Mr Littlewood at Blackhall Colliery, in County Durham.

He had been standing trial at Teesside Crown Court.

Mr Littlewood – known as John D – died in a bedroom of his home on Third Street.

The 36-year-old was beaten with a weapon before his bloodied body was found by his on-off partner days later.

Bates, of Tenth Street, Blackhall Colliery, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

Tracey Bunney, 45, also of Tenth Street is still on trial for murder, which she denies.
