If Penn State decides to move on from Jim Ferry, here’s a list of potential head coach candidates


If we’ve learned one truth about Penn State and men’s basketball it’s that thrift is the overriding factor – in infrastructure, in arena management, in gameday administration, in travel arrangements for the team – and especially in the price of the coaching staff. If PSU can do men’s hoop on the cheap, it will.

So, I entered this season wholly mindful that if former assistant Jim Ferry’s won-lost record as interim head coach was anything approximating adequate, he would be a legitimate candidate to be signed to a long-term contract. Even with the Lions at 7-12 and 4-11 in Big Ten play entering tonight’s tussle at equally forlorn Nebraska, I think any sort of minor-miracle run during the last four games and B1G tournament will elevate Ferry into the conversation as Pat Chambers’ permanent replacement.
