So Daytona Beach City Commissioner Rob Gilliland wants to tap into the $1.2 million the city is to contribute for furniture and equipment so it can go towards operating costs instead. I would like to see published the line items for furniture and equipment costs. Many people buy quality furniture including beds, chairs and tables from thrift stores, myself included, for pennies on the dollar. If they’re good enough for our homes they should be good enough for the One Step Shelter.

This is just one instance of the ineptitude of local politicians, both city and county. That’s also the reason our household is voting “no” to the sales tax increase.
