Honda Classic: Tiger Woods skipping ‘hometown’ tournament at PGA National to play Bay Hill – Sports – Gainesville Sun


Tiger Woods is snubbing his local tournament.

The Jupiter Island resident who several times has referred to the Honda Classic as his “hometown tournament,” announced on social media today he has opted to play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational March 7-10 than take on the PGA National course next weekend.

“Unfortunately, due to the schedule this year, I cannot play all the events I want to. I will be taking next week off and playing in the (@APinv and @THEPLAYERSChamp. Sorry to miss seeing Jack and everyone at Honda,” Woods said via Twitter.

The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is March 14-17.

Woods, 43, returned to Honda last year after a three-year absence due to his health. He finished 12th, shooting an even-par 280, eight shots behind the champion, Justin Thomas, who was forced to a playoff with Luke List.
